{"id":50539,"date":"2013-12-05T08:23:01","date_gmt":"2013-12-05T06:23:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=50539"},"modified":"2013-12-05T08:27:28","modified_gmt":"2013-12-05T06:27:28","slug":"google-looking-at-robots-next","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/hardware\/50539\/google-looking-at-robots-next\/","title":{"rendered":"Google looking at robots next?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Google Inc has quietly acquired more than a half-dozen companies for a new robotics groups led by Andy Rubin, formerly in charge of Google&#8217;s popular mobile software, according to a report in the New York Times on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The new group is focusing on developing robotic technology that can be used in factories, rather than developing robots intended for consumers, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>A Google spokeswoman declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>Google Chief Executive Larry Page wrote on his official Google+ profile page on Wednesday that it was still &#8220;early days&#8221; for the robotics project, but that he was looking forward to seeing the progress.<\/p>\n<p>Rubin was formerly in charge of Google&#8217;s Android mobile operating system, which is now used on roughly 80 percent of the world&#8217;s smartphones.
