{"id":506748,"date":"2021-07-18T17:30:52","date_gmt":"2021-07-18T15:30:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=506748"},"modified":"2021-07-17T13:42:13","modified_gmt":"2021-07-17T11:42:13","slug":"these-are-the-most-in-demand-job-skills-in-south-africa-right-now-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/506748\/these-are-the-most-in-demand-job-skills-in-south-africa-right-now-19\/","title":{"rendered":"These are the most in-demand job skills in South Africa right now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jobs portal CareerJunction has published its latest jobs index, highlighting the current state of the job market in the country right now.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.careerjunction.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CareerJunction Index<\/a> (CJI) rose to 108 index points during June 2021 due to a drop in job search activity, down 7%. &#8220;As a result, job seekers are experiencing less competition in the current job market,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>The CJI represents online labour dynamics in the country by providing a detailed analysis of the relative ratio of supply and demand in the online job market.<\/p>\n<p>It is based on the analysis of data gathered from the CareerJunction website \u2013 where around 3,000 of the country\u2019s top recruiters advertise their positions to millions of registered job seekers.<\/p>\n<p>The latest research shows that the following occupational fields are currently the most sought-after skill sets in the job market:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Software development:<\/strong> Software developers and programmers remain highly demanded in the South African job market. Demand for software development skills increased by 23% from the first to the second quarter of 2021.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Middle management:<\/strong> Job seekers with managerial skills are facing good employment prospects. Finance managers, as well as sales managers, are high in demand.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Representative or sales consulting:<\/strong> Year-on-year demand for sales consultants increased by over 50% indicating improved employment opportunities since last year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Trending jobs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CareerJunction said that the following trending jobs indicate positions that have become more popular in the online job market and have seen a recent spike in demand.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Executive Management \/ Director<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Average salary offerings for an executive-level position:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>GP: R87,457 to R117,422 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>WC: R79,703 to R109,395 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>KZN: R87,524 to R104,682 p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Representative \/ Sales Consulting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Average salary offerings for an intermediate level position:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>GP: R15,067 to R22,253 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>WC: R17,427 to R22,476 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>KZN: R15,067 to R21,167 p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>IT Project Administration \/ Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Average salary offerings for an intermediate position:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>GP: R49,852 to R67,097 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>WC: R49,254 to R62,310 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>KZN: R39,537 to R48,204 p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Supply and demand<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An overview of vacancy levels across various sectors provides a good indication of where the majority of employment takes place.<\/p>\n<p>According to CareerJunction, the IT, business &amp; management, and finance sectors are the most sought-after sectors, followed by the sales, admin, office &amp; support, and architecture &amp; engineering sectors, among others listed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When looking at active job seekers across various sectors, areas of high supply correlate closely to areas of high demand, however supply outstrips demand in some areas, leading to a competitive<br \/>\nenvironment for job seekers,&#8221; the group said.<\/p>\n<p>Here, the admin, office &amp; support sector is quite competitive, as is the business &amp; management sector, it said.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Supply-and-Demand-June-21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-506750\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Supply-and-Demand-June-21.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"516\" height=\"881\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Supply-and-Demand-June-21.jpg 516w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Supply-and-Demand-June-21-176x300.jpg 176w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 516px) 100vw, 516px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Top employment sectors<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The following sectors are showing an increased hiring trend, pointing to better prospects for job seekers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Admin, office and support<\/li>\n<li>Business and management<\/li>\n<li>Finance<\/li>\n<li>Sales<\/li>\n<li>ICT<\/li>\n<li>Warehousing and logistics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;Since January recruitment activity has increased notably in the admin, office &amp; support, business &amp; management, finance, sales, ICT and warehousing &amp; logistics sectors,&#8221; CareerJunction said. said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Particularly, ICT vacancies increased significantly during the first six months of 2021.
