MTN has introduced MTN SurferLite, a pilot project that aims to provide customers with feature phones access to the Internet at minimal cost.<\/p>\n
The MTN SurferLite platform enables digital information and entertainment on feature and Java-enabled phones.<\/p>\n
MTN said its new product would provide access to news, email, Facebook, Twitter, MTN Football, NBA Scores, Dictionary, Sudoku and more.<\/p>\n
The group said it plans to extend the capabilities of the platform in future to also include accessibility to e-government services, local health and education related matters, job search and others.<\/p>\n
The data is free; however, to request\u00a0information\u00a0will cost users 5 cents, MTN said.<\/p>\n
Peter Malebye, MTN SA GM said: \u201cThe MTN SurferLite application provides an introductory data service to the digital world to customers by delivering an affordable experience that allows non-Internet customers access to content that is otherwise only available on an Internet-enabled phone.”<\/p>\n
“With this platform, we hope to not only address the growing needs for access to basic Internet content by a large portion of the South African population while leveraging other broadband technologies that MTN has built,\u201d\u00a0Malebye said.<\/p>\n
