Power utility Eskom has warned that it may be forced to implement load shedding at short notice on Thursday, as the grid is under severe strain.<\/p>\n
The group said that it has lost four generating units during the day – three of which tripped, while another was taken offline for repairs.<\/p>\n
“While the system is currently performing relatively well, with no load shedding being implemented, a further loss of generation capacity would force Eskom to implement load shedding at short notice,” it said.<\/p>\n
It warned that the period between 18h00 and 22h00 carries the highest load shedding risk.<\/p>\n
Breakdowns currently total 13,557MW while planned maintenance is at 4,074MW of capacity. Eskom has not implemented load shedding since 22 July.<\/p>\n
