Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko has held talks with a host of large media companies\u00a0including\u00a0Comcast, Bertelsmann, Naspers, and Netflix, Bloomberg has reported.<\/p>\n
According to Bloomberg, the talks to carry content on Telkom\u2019s fixed-line networks are part of an effort by Maseko to boost revenue.<\/p>\n
It follows an earlier report in October, 2013, carried by MyBroadband.<\/p>\n
Telkom\u2019s plans to offer online media content are no secret, with the company saying that it wanted to offer \u201cmedia-rich content\u201d with its very-high-bitrate digital subscriber line services.<\/p>\n
VDSL launched commercially in South Africa during March 2013.<\/p>\n
Telkom has also been running a promotion which offers uncapped data from a number of online video content services.<\/p>\n
Maseko on\u00a0Schindehutte<\/strong><\/p>\n In an interview with Bloomberg,\u00a0Sipho Maseko added comment to the much-publicised suspension of Telkom chief financial officer, Jacques Schindehutte.<\/p>\n Schindehutte was suspended in October last year\u00a0following the outcome of an investigation into\u00a0unspecified allegations made against him.<\/p>\n Maseko noted that he would have preferred not to have pushed an investigation into the matter.<\/p>\n \u201cIf we were not listed, no one would know about this, we\u00a0would have managed it pretty quietly,\u201d Maseko said.\u00a0\u201cIt started off as a\u00a0whistle-blowing, which the company then duly investigated.
