Justice Project South Africa (JPSA) has distanced itself from viral hoax e-toll messages, branding the hoaxers as ‘moronic’.<\/p>\n
Justice Project South Africa is a non-profit company, and is primarily involved in the prevention and addressing of corruption and power abuse in law enforcement as well as in the education of the public in a wide range road safety issues.<\/p>\n
JPSA says there are\u00a0more than sufficient factual reasons why the e-toll policy and practice is flawed, without resorting to making things up.<\/p>\n
The host message has taken several forms, the latest of which reads as follows:<\/p>\n

\nOn Tuesday, of the +900 000 cases of vehicles passing through the\u00a0William Nicol plaza, only +1300 cars were E-tag registered.<\/p>\nDon\u2019t be scared, they can\u2019t force you to do anything.<\/p>\n
If you do get pulled over in a roadblock as described above, please\u00a0call the \u201cJustice Project of South Africa\u201d on 0878090399.
\nAlert them of the roadblock and they will send some personnel to\u00a0shut the Roadblock down. If you can\u2019t reach them, send an sms to\u00a00812181368 detailing your problem.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n“We are not inviting the morons who authored this hoax to adjust their nonsense,” JPSA said in a statement.<\/p>\n
“There are more than sufficient factual reasons why the e-tolls policy and practice is flawed without resorting to making things up, which is exactly what these bright sparks have done.”<\/p>\n
“We suggest they find better things to do with their time – like for example making the facts that we have published go viral.”<\/p>\n
Among other things, JPSA slated the following:\u00a0“<\/strong>For the ETOLL system to work SANRAL needs 78% compliance”.<\/p>\n
“This is untrue. The compliance required is more in the order of a minimum of 95%, JPSA said.<\/p>\n
It stressed that even at 95% compliance, the National Prosecuting Authority will be left with a around 125,000 criminal prosecutions to institute and finalise each month.<\/p>\n
“South Africa’s criminal justice system is simply incapable of handling such volumes.”<\/p>\n
