More than 40 South African business and government leaders will be making the trip to the\u00a0World Economic Forum’s annual summit in Davos, Switzerland, with tickets priced as much as\u00a0R219,000.<\/p>\n

The WEF’s annual meeting, at the Swiss mountain resort of Davos from January 22-25,\u00a0brings together thousands of high-profile delagates in business, finance and governance from around the globe.<\/p>\n

The 2014 edition is expected to draw over 2,600 delegates, with over 250 talks, presentations or discussions scheduled to take place over the five day event.<\/p>\n

The list, provided by Quartz,\u00a0includes South African president, Jacob Zuma, and ministers from eight government portfolios.<\/p>\n

Joining the government delegates are high profile CEO’s and leaders from some of South Africa’s biggest companies and financial institutions, including Naspers CEO, Koos Bekker; Absa CEO, Maria Ramos and billionaire, Patrice Mostsepe.<\/p>\n

According to a cost break-down by CNN, the attendees fork out an average of US$40,000 each (almost R438,000) – including the US$20,000 (R219,000) ticket price to attend the conference, as well as travel and accommodation costs.<\/p>\n

With a count of 46 South African\u00a0delegates listed by Quartz, this would bring a total average of US$1.84 million (R20.14 million) spent by the country for the summit – US$360,000 (R3.94 million) by government officials alone.<\/p>\n
