Transport minister Fikile Mbalula has published the government’s updated national licensing transaction fees for 2021 for public comment.<\/p>\n

In a government gazette published<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>on Friday (3 September), Mbalula said that the new transaction fee will cost R72.<\/p>\n

In terms of the\u00a0<\/em>Road Traffic Management Corporation Act, local registering authorities (licensing centres) must pay the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) a transaction fee for each motorist it processes.<\/p>\n

This is subsequently passed on to the applicant and added to the annual licence fee.<\/p>\n

This fee is separate from the actual licence fee, with the R72 effectively added to the renewal costs for all motor vehicle licenses across the country.<\/p>\n

This appears to be the first time that the fee has effectively decreased since being introduced, with the fee increasing to a high of R82 in 2019<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

While a R72 fee may seem minor, the tariff has steadily climbed since it was first introduced at R30 in 2007.<\/p>\n
