Sanral<\/a>‘s offices have been evacuated after a suspicious powder was found in the building, causing the e-toll system to be temporarily shut down.<\/p>\n

This is according to tweets posted by EyeWitness News on Tuesday (21 January), confirmed by die Beeld<\/a> newspaper.<\/p>\n

According to reports, Sanral’s offices in Samrand, Midrand, were evacuated as a safety precaution, after the substance was found. The substance has reportedly been taken in for testing.<\/p>\n

No injuries were reported, while Tshwane Emergency Services as well as the South African Police Service (SAPS) were on the scene.<\/p>\n

Spokesman for Sanral, Vusi Mona<\/a>, told Power987 News as well as die Beeld, that the e-tolling system will be affected by the incident as all staff were evacuated, and no one is able to monitor the systems.<\/p>\n

The controversial Gauteng e-tolling system officially launched on 3 December 2013, and has faced fierce opposition by commuters and road users across the province.<\/p>\n
