{"id":52013,"date":"2014-01-22T12:44:17","date_gmt":"2014-01-22T10:44:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=52013"},"modified":"2014-01-22T13:53:37","modified_gmt":"2014-01-22T11:53:37","slug":"bizarre-e-toll-billing-complaints","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/52013\/bizarre-e-toll-billing-complaints\/","title":{"rendered":"Bizarre e-toll billing complaints"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Democratic Alliance (<a title=\"DA\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1696-DA-Democratic-Alliance\">DA<\/a>) says it has received over 300 e-toll billing complaints from the public since a call last week to submit queries to the political party.<\/p>\n<p>The <a title=\"South African National Roads Agency Limited\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1722-SANRAL-South-African-National-Roads-Association-Limited\">South African\u00a0National Roads Agency\u00a0Limited<\/a> implemented its e-toll \u00a0system on Gauteng&#8217;s freeways on 3 December 2013.<\/p>\n<p>The DA says it aims to submit a list of complaints to the National Consumer Commission.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the more bizarre complaints we have received include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A resident in the Western Cape who has not\u00a0traveled\u00a0on Gauteng\u2019s roads since the implementation of e-tolling. She has received two invoices to date, one of which was for a motorcycle, when in fact her only vehicle is a Corsa Lite car;<\/li>\n<li>A resident who received an SMS from Sanral to say that he owes R00.00 and has been handed over to the VPC;<\/li>\n<li>People who do not even own a vehicle or have a drivers licence receiving SMSes from Sanral with outstanding debt. One of these SMSes was for an amount of R1362,63;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Many people have received a final SMS warning without having received an official invoice;<\/li>\n<li>Gauteng residents who do not travel on tolled roads are receiving SMSes for final pay notices from Sanral.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The DA says that most common complaints are people not receiving invoices, incorrect amounts for actual travel and bills going to people who have not travelled recently. &#8220;It is clear that the billing system is not working,&#8221; said\u00a0<a title=\"Mmusi Maimane\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/7228-Mmusi-Maimane\">Mmusi Maimane<\/a>,\u00a0DA Gauteng Premier Candidate.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Not only is the e-tolling system unjust in its implementation but residents are now faced with mounting billing challenges,&#8221;\u00a0Maimane said.<\/p>\n<p>The DA recently noted that its legal case against the\u00a0implementation\u00a0of e-tolls on Gauteng\u2019s freeways has been\u00a0set down for 4-5 March 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The DA submitted papers to the High Court in November 2013, arguing that\u00a0the legislation governing e-tolling was\u00a0incorrectly tagged and should be declared unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">More on the DA and e-tolls<\/h3>\n<p><a title=\"E-tolls back up after \u201cwhite powder\u201d incident\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/general\/51989\/e-tolls-back-up-after-white-powder-incident\/\"><strong>E-tolls back up after \u201cwhite powder\u201d incident<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"DA e-toll court case looms\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/general\/51615\/da-e-toll-court-case-looms\/\"><strong>DA e-toll court case looms<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Wrong e-toll bill?
