{"id":52036,"date":"2014-01-23T05:00:20","date_gmt":"2014-01-23T03:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=52036"},"modified":"2014-01-23T09:17:31","modified_gmt":"2014-01-23T07:17:31","slug":"sanral-says-e-toll-complaints-valid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/52036\/sanral-says-e-toll-complaints-valid\/","title":{"rendered":"Sanral says e-toll complaints valid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0South African\u00a0National Roads Agency\u00a0Limited\u00a0(<a title=\"Sanral\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1722-SANRAL-South-African-National-Roads-Association-Limited\">Sanral<\/a>) has confirmed that it has\u00a0received\u00a0a number of &#8220;valid complaints&#8221; relating to its much-maligned e-toll system.<\/p>\n<p>The system went live on Gauteng\u2019s freeways on 3 December 2013 and has attracted a\u00a0fair amount of complaints, mostly due to\u00a0inaccurate\u00a0billing.<\/p>\n<p>Sanral spokesman <a title=\"Vusi Mona\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/9466-Vusi-Mona\">Vusi Mona<\/a> earlier this month cited \u201cgenuine\u201d complaints about the system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are genuine customer complaints. There is no system that is foolproof and 100% correct, Mona said, adding that\u00a0there were not a large number of such complaints.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to BusinessTech, Mona said that\u00a0number of complaints received since toll commencement \u00a0to 10 January 2014 is 2% of total registered account units. He did not say how many accounts there were, however.<\/p>\n<p>The number of valid complaints however, he put at 12% of that 2% of\u00a0registered account units.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We would like to assure road users that we take their concerns seriously and are making every effort to deal with their complaints,&#8221; Mona said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Democratic Alliance (<a title=\"DA\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1696-DA-Democratic-Alliance\">DA<\/a>) said on Wednesday, that it has received over 300 e-toll billing complaints from the public since a call last week to submit queries to the political party.<\/p>\n<p>The DA said it aims to submit a list of complaints to the National Consumer Commission.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the more bizarre complaints we have received include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A resident in the Western Cape who has not\u00a0traveled\u00a0on Gauteng\u2019s roads since the implementation of e-tolling. She has received two invoices to date, one of which was for a motorcycle, when in fact her only vehicle is a Corsa Lite car;<\/li>\n<li>A resident who received an SMS from Sanral to say that he owes R00.00 and has been handed over to the VPC;<\/li>\n<li>People who do not even own a vehicle or have a drivers licence receiving SMSes from Sanral with outstanding debt.
