{"id":521570,"date":"2021-09-15T12:44:37","date_gmt":"2021-09-15T10:44:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=521570"},"modified":"2021-09-15T12:44:37","modified_gmt":"2021-09-15T10:44:37","slug":"these-are-the-top-airbnb-cities-and-towns-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/521570\/these-are-the-top-airbnb-cities-and-towns-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"These are the top Airbnb cities and towns in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2020, a \u2018crisis year\u2019 for tourism in South Africa, travel on Airbnb contributed more than R8 billion to the economy, supporting around 21,500 jobs according to a new report from independent consultancy Genesis Analytics, commissioned by Airbnb.<\/p>\n<p>The report highlights how the Airbnb platform contributes to the growth of the tourist economy and that this growth is increasingly inclusive in nature.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Airbnb platform is lowering barriers to entry and welcoming new Hosts onto the platform by empowering groups typically excluded from the benefits of tourism, like those living in rural and township communities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The report also shows how the Covid pandemic and resulting lockdowns impacted the tourism industry in South Africa in 2020, with Airbnb\u2019s contribution to economy-wide employment climbing 28% in 2019, to <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">28,599, before slipping back to around 21,500 last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It also illustrates that Airbnb is an increasingly popular and more accessible choice for domestic travellers.
