{"id":523746,"date":"2021-09-23T11:36:16","date_gmt":"2021-09-23T09:36:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=523746"},"modified":"2021-09-23T11:36:16","modified_gmt":"2021-09-23T09:36:16","slug":"these-will-be-some-of-the-busiest-roads-over-the-long-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/motoring\/523746\/these-will-be-some-of-the-busiest-roads-over-the-long-weekend\/","title":{"rendered":"These will be some of the busiest roads over the long weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Gauteng Traffic Police and Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has urged road users to exercise care and caution ahead of the long weekend, with traffic volumes expected to increase significantly over the three-day period.<\/p>\n<p>Major roads exiting and leading to Gauteng province are expected to be heavily congested starting from Thursday (23 September) and again on Sunday (26 September), the authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>The following freeways and routes are expected to be busy this long weekend:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The N3 Johannesburg to Durban<\/li>\n<li>The N12 Johannesburg to Potchefstroom<\/li>\n<li>The N1 Pretoria to Polokwane<\/li>\n<li>The N4 Pretoria to Rustenburg<\/li>\n<li>The N4 Pretoria to Mpumalanga<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Last year statistics showed that between 22 September and 28 September 2020, 49 people lost their lives on Gauteng roads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese statistics are highly regrettable and therefore a stark reminder that road users must obey the rules and regulations of the road to save lives.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Many road fatalities were as a result of unsafe overtaking, overspeeding, driving under the influence of alcohol and general disregard of the rules of the road or road traffic sign amongst others.
