{"id":524078,"date":"2021-09-27T15:23:00","date_gmt":"2021-09-27T13:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=524078"},"modified":"2021-09-27T15:23:00","modified_gmt":"2021-09-27T13:23:00","slug":"government-is-hiring-thousands-of-assistants-to-help-in-south-africas-schools-heres-how-to-apply","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/524078\/government-is-hiring-thousands-of-assistants-to-help-in-south-africas-schools-heres-how-to-apply\/","title":{"rendered":"Government is hiring thousands of assistants to help in South Africa&#8217;s schools &#8211; here&#8217;s how to apply"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Basic Education has opened recruitment for phase two of its Basic Education Employment Initiative.<\/p>\n<p>The recruitment drive, open from 27 September until 3 October 2021, aims to provide 287,000 unemployed young people employment and training opportunities in the education sector.<\/p>\n<p>Youth between the ages of 18 and 35, who are currently neither in education\/ training nor receiving any form of a government grant and young people with disabilities and women, are eligible and encouraged to apply, the department said.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates selected for placement will have an opportunity to receive training on various skills that will equip them for future employment opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>All successful candidates will be placed in schools for five months, from 1 November 2021 to 31 March 2022, for the following available opportunities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Education assistant &#8211; Curriculum<\/li>\n<li>Education assistant &#8211; ICT\/e-Cadres<\/li>\n<li>Education assistant &#8211; Reading Champions<\/li>\n<li>General School assistant &#8211; Child &amp; Youth Care Worker<\/li>\n<li>General School assistant &#8211; Handyman (no matric required)<\/li>\n<li>General School assistant \u2013 Sports and Enrichment Agent (no matric required)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To qualify as an education assistant, the department said you must have passed matric English, while an NQF Level 4, 6 and 7 qualification certificate will be an added advantage.<\/p>\n<p>However, for placement as a general school assistant, a matric certificate is not required for infrastructure support and sports and enrichment agents, although trade certificates will be an added advantage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To work in the education environment, you must have a good ability to work with people and within groups, have good communication skills, be a good listener, and have an interest in academics,&#8221; the department said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To apply for a placement, young people are urged to visit sayouth.mobi to create a profile and submit their application. No walk-ins will be allowed in schools due to Covid-19 restrictions.
