MTN South Africa has partnered with City Power in Johannesburg and now has access to all of the power electricity distributor\u2019s street pole infrastructure.<\/p>\n

This is according to MTN\u2019s head of radio planning & optimisation, Krishna Chetty, who was answering questions at an MTN event held on Wednesday, 29 January 2014 in Sandton.<\/p>\n

At the event, Chetty said that MTN currently covers 99% of South Africa\u2019s population with 2G technology, 75% with 3G, and around 3-million people with Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology.<\/p>\n

Chetty said that MTN was the only mobile operator that has struck such a deal with City Power and that under the terms of the agreement they will be able to roll out embedded telecommunications infrastructure to street poles.<\/p>\n

This forms part of MTN\u2019s plans to invest heavily in its infrastructure, and Chetty said that MTN would probably invest around R4-billion into its network during 2014.<\/p>\n
