Telkom has appointed Alphonzo Samuels as chief technology officer, with immediate effect.<\/p>\n

His new role will see Samuels\u00a0ensure the implementation of the functional separation of Telkom’s Wholesale and Retail divisions<\/p>\n

Samuels joined Telkom in January 1984. During his 30 year tenure he has held positions in the infrastructure, planning and engineering environments.<\/p>\n

More recently, he has been taking care of the wholesale and networks organisation as acting MD.<\/p>\n

Telkom Group CEO, Sipho Maseko, said: \u201cSince November last year, Telkom has been appointing the industry\u2019s best into top leadership positions including most recently the appointments of Len De Villiers, Enzo Scarcella and Ian Russell to lead the IT, marketing and procurement functions respectively.”<\/p>\n

\u201cIn his new role as CTO, Alphonzo will continue the push to build an invincible network that is capable of meeting our rigorous high-speed broadband ambitions. He will assume responsibility for both the fixed and mobile networks.”<\/p>\n

\u201cHe will also work closely with our transformation office to ensure the implementation of the functional separation of our Wholesale and Retail divisions,\u201d Maseko said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlphonzo will focus on delivering Telkom\u2019s next generation network aspirations and leading the transformation towards an all-IP network,\u201d Telkom’s chief said.<\/p>\n

Prior to his appointment as the CTO, Samuels was appointed as the managing executive: Network Infrastructure Provisioning on 1 July 2010.<\/p>\n

He was also the group executive: wholesale & marketing operations from November 2007 until June 2010.<\/p>\n

He holds a Bachelor’s of Technology (BTech) as well as a National Technical Diploma in Telecommunications and a National Diploma in Human Resource Management. He has also completed the Executive Leadership Program and the Program on Enterprise Leadership for Executives.<\/p>\n
