{"id":531596,"date":"2021-10-24T07:45:44","date_gmt":"2021-10-24T05:45:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=531596"},"modified":"2021-10-24T07:45:44","modified_gmt":"2021-10-24T05:45:44","slug":"city-of-joburg-rejects-eskom-load-shedding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/531596\/city-of-joburg-rejects-eskom-load-shedding\/","title":{"rendered":"City of Joburg rejects Eskom load shedding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Johannesburg says it rejects Eskom&#8217;s latest scheduled load shedding and has threatened legal action against the power utility.<\/p>\n<p>The city pointed out in a statement on Saturday evening (23 October), that it recently secured an additional power supply capacity of 220 MW from privately owned Kelvin Power station that qualifies it for an exemption from stage 1 and 2 of load shedding,<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/531588\/eskom-announces-stage-2-load-shedding-here-is-the-schedule-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eskom resumed<\/a> stage 2 load shedding, which is set to continue through to Monday at 05h00.<\/p>\n<p>The city, through its municipal power utility, City Power, had previously written a letter to Eskom after it concluded the additional capacity power purchase agreement with the Kelvin Power Station, to notify the national power utility of the added capacity.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">City Power will not be <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Loadshedding?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Loadshedding<\/a> as per <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Eskom_SA?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Eskom_SA<\/a> directive!<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 @CityPowerJhb (@CityPowerJhb) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CityPowerJhb\/status\/1452013142075219975?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 23, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When the city first reached out to Eskom to indicate our additional supply capacity, we were asked for proof in this regard, which we accordingly presented,&#8221; said Johannesburg mayor Mpho Moerane.<\/p>\n<p>The mayor said the city presented proof of its additional capacity, as asked by Eskom.
