{"id":531732,"date":"2021-10-25T09:45:32","date_gmt":"2021-10-25T07:45:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=531732"},"modified":"2021-10-25T09:45:32","modified_gmt":"2021-10-25T07:45:32","slug":"eskom-and-city-power-working-to-end-load-shedding-in-joburg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/531732\/eskom-and-city-power-working-to-end-load-shedding-in-joburg\/","title":{"rendered":"Eskom and City Power working to end load shedding in Joburg"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Johannesburg will continue load shedding for the foreseeable future, despite requests to be excluded from Eskom&#8217;s stage 1 and 2 load shedding at a national level.<\/p>\n<p>This follows a statement from municipal power utility, City Power, at the weekend, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/531596\/city-of-joburg-rejects-eskom-load-shedding\/\">rejecting the latest round of load shedding<\/a><\/strong> in the city.<\/p>\n<p>City Power said it recently concluded an additional capacity power purchase agreement with the Kelvin Power Station, and secured an additional power supply capacity of 220 MW.<\/p>\n<p>This, it said, should exempt it from the worst of load shedding.<\/p>\n<p>However, Eskom said that it is still investigating how much of this additional capacity can be fed onto the national grid.<\/p>\n<p>In a joint statement on Monday (25 October) the City of Johannesburg and Eskom said that they would continue searching for a lasting solution &#8211; with the hope that the end result would be City of Johannesburg customers being excluded from load shedding.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Technical teams from both Eskom and City Power will continue to consider the technical aspects of the Kelvin Power Station and verify the additional capacity that can be added to the national grid,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The teams will also explore technical possibilities that may see the City of Johanessburg partially shielded from load shedding in future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Eskom?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Eskom<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/MediaStatement?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#MediaStatement<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CityPowerJhb?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@CityPowerJhb<\/a> and Eskom have agreed to work together to protect power grid in the national interest <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/cyXsoruBBm\">pic.twitter.com\/cyXsoruBBm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Eskom Hld SOC Ltd (@Eskom_SA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Eskom_SA\/status\/1452527111273648131?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 25, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Eskom resumed stage 2 load shedding, which will continue on Monday (25 October) at 21h00.
