South Africa’s alcohol industry has warned of possible supply shortages in December, with the industry still grappling with the effects of multiple lockdown-related sales bans.<\/p>\n
Speaking to radio station Jacaranda<\/a><\/strong>, the National Liquor Traders Association’s Lucky Ntimane said that the industry was facing supply-chain issues due to a global shortage of glass bottles and shipment delays.<\/p>\n “We (are) worried that should the supply chain issues – which we understand are beyond liquor manufacture’s control – not be resolved, it will mean an even bleaker peak trading period for traders who have had to contend with a liquor ban in December 2020 and might now have to brace for stock shortages in December 2021,” he said.<\/p>\n Savanna maker Distell told Fin24<\/a> <\/strong>that it is still feeling the impact of the various alcohol bans, compounded by global supply chain shortages and shipment delays linked to the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n However, Distell spokesperson Frank Ford said the company is working on ensuring that there will be enough supply. “It’s not going to be dry,” he said.<\/p>\n Glassmaker, Consol, said that there is a glass shortage impacting all categories, and it came as a direct result of the various lockdowns and alcohol bans last year.<\/p>\n
