{"id":53441,"date":"2014-02-20T15:44:32","date_gmt":"2014-02-20T13:44:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=53441"},"modified":"2014-02-20T17:26:52","modified_gmt":"2014-02-20T15:26:52","slug":"zuma-to-step-up-affirmative-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/53441\/zuma-to-step-up-affirmative-action\/","title":{"rendered":"Zuma to step up affirmative action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Jacob Zuma on Thursday promised a period of &#8220;socio-economic transformation&#8221; after the May 7 elections.<\/p>\n<p>Zuma told MPs government would launch a drive to tackle poverty and inequality and ensure that affirmative action was stepped up.<\/p>\n<p>Responding in the National Assembly to debate on his state-of-the-nation address, Zuma said opposition parties who decried affirmative action were ignoring the damage apartheid had caused.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It provokes a debate we don&#8217;t want to enter into.
