{"id":535166,"date":"2021-11-07T15:37:21","date_gmt":"2021-11-07T13:37:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=535166"},"modified":"2021-11-07T15:39:34","modified_gmt":"2021-11-07T13:39:34","slug":"full-week-of-load-shedding-ahead-check-your-schedule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/535166\/full-week-of-load-shedding-ahead-check-your-schedule\/","title":{"rendered":"Full week of load shedding ahead &#8211; check your schedule"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eskom has announced that stage 2 load shedding will continue throughout the week, from Monday at 05h00 until Saturday (13 November).<\/p>\n<p>The extended load shedding is due to the current lack of generating capacity and its inability to build sufficient reserves, the power utility said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Despite the implementation of stage 2 load shedding, the events over the past two days have required extensive use of emergency generating reserves, hampering the recovery of the dam levels at the pumped storage power stations, depleting already low diesel levels,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>Eskom said that higher levels of load shedding may be required during the week, as the system remains incredibly volatile and unpredictable.<\/p>\n<p>Analysts have warned that Eskom\u2019s power fleet shows no signs of recovery and that load shedding is likely to remain, or even worsen over the short term.<\/p>\n<p>Energy analyst Chris Yelland told the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.news24.com\/citypress\/business\/eskoms-fleet-as-broken-down-as-its-ever-been-20211106\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">City Press<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>that problems could escalate in January as Eskom is expected to continue with major planned maintenance at Cape Town\u2019s Koeberg power station.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat worries me is that one of Koeberg\u2019s units will have to be taken offline for five months in January,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen that unit is returned to service, it will be the turn of the other one.
