The Special Investigating Unit will probe the validity of a tender awarded by the department of communications, the presidency said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cPresident Jacob Zuma has signed a proclamation authorising the SIU to investigate certain matters relating to the affairs of the department of communications,\u201d spokesman Mac Maharaj said.<\/p>\n
He said the unit would investigate the validity of a memorandum of agreement concluded between the department and Media Corner (Pty) Limited.<\/p>\n
The company provided services for a public awareness campaign about digital migration.<\/p>\n
The unit would investigate allegations of improper or unlawful conduct by employees of the department in as far as it relates to the awarding of the tender to Media Corner.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe SIU will further investigate the roles played by the employees of the department in as far as it relates awarding of the tender to Media Corner,\u201d said Maharaj.<\/p>\n
