MIH Internet Africa (MIHIA), a subsidiary of the Naspers group, says it will restructure its\u00a0operations in order to focus specifically on its general e-tail businesses such as Kalahari.<\/p>\n
The Internet arm of Naspers in Africa, MIHIA\u00a0has confirmed that it will close “some small businesses which are no longer core”,\u00a0namely Style36, 5Rooms, Kinderelo, SA Camera and 5Ounces.<\/p>\n
This, Naspers said, follows consultation with staff and after reviewing all options.<\/p>\n
“This decision is based purely on a shift in\u00a0strategy and was not performance related,” it said.<\/p>\n
The group stressed that this process is limited to the MIHIA group and\u00a0does not affect other Naspers subsidiaries with e-commerce investments in Africa, such as\u00a0Media24, which continues to focus on fashion e-commerce.<\/p>\n
“Media24 will continue to leverage\u00a0its magazine titles to drive e-commerce activity, especially through fast-growing fashion\u00a0vertical Spree, and is planning to expand substantially in this area,” Naspers said.<\/p>\n
The internet firm said that plans to grow Kalahari \u00a0aggressively over the next year.<\/p>\n
“Kalahari had a very strong Christmas\u00a0and has just introduced an advanced platform successfully. The restructuring will allow the\u00a0group to dedicate more resources to this exciting area of growth, building out stronger\u00a0platforms and offering better services,” it said.<\/p>\n
