{"id":5381,"date":"2012-02-03T11:56:53","date_gmt":"2012-02-03T11:56:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=5381"},"modified":"2012-02-03T12:04:29","modified_gmt":"2012-02-03T12:04:29","slug":"flat-rated-smartphone-data-war-brewing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/5381\/flat-rated-smartphone-data-war-brewing\/","title":{"rendered":"Flat-rate smartphone data war brewing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Company Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/226943-MTN\" target=\"_blank\">MTN<\/a> is set to launch new flat-rated smartphone data packages similar to the popular <a title=\"Company Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/342709-BlackBerry\" target=\"_blank\">BlackBerry<\/a> Internet service (BIS) offerings.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Person Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/327180-Serame-Taukobong\" target=\"_blank\">Serame Taukobong<\/a>, MTN South Africa\u2019s chief marketing officer, confirmed today (3 February 2012) that the company is launching Smartphone Services, targeted at entry level smartphone users.<\/p>\n<p>MTN\u2019s smartphone services are aimed at niche smartphone users with planned products like the <a title=\"Company Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/314603-Nokia-Corporation\" target=\"_blank\">Nokia<\/a> Smartphone Pro Service, MTN Smartphone Pro Service and MTN Opera Mini Internet Service.<\/p>\n<p>Pricing is rumoured to be at a similar level or cheaper than current BlackBerry Internet Service prices.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Company Information\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/227063-Vodacom\" target=\"_blank\">Vodacom<\/a> is also working on flat-rated smartphone data plans which will further bring competition to smartphone data market and in specific BlackBerry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis [flat-rated smartphone data plan] is something we look forward to because it will be very positive for Vodacom customers.
