Power utility Eskom has officially announced that load shedding will begin from 9am today, across the country.<\/p>\n
This follows Eskom declaring a state of emergency on Thursday morning, and warning of possible power cuts.<\/p>\n
Spokesman Andrew Etzinger said seven days of heavy rain had left coal stocks wet.<\/p>\n
He said that the company is facing\u00a0its most serious power emergency since 2008.<\/p>\n
“We have asked our large industrial customers, to reduce their consumption by 10 percent, but it appears this will not be enough,” Etzinger said.<\/p>\n
“Rotational load shedding is a strong possibility.”<\/p>\n
Eskom announced that load-shedding would be taking place across the country, stating that the country’s power supply crisis was the most severe since 2008.<\/p>\n
Load shedding would commence from 9am on Thursday (6 March 2014) and is likely to last until the weekend.<\/p>\n
Eskom appealed to the public to reduce their electricity usage to help ease the demand for power.<\/p>\n
