The load-shedding functions on three levels, with level three being the most extreme with longer periods of no power.<\/p>\n

By visiting http:\/\/loadshedding.eskom.co.za\/<\/strong><\/a> South Africans will be able to check Eskom’s load-shedding schedule, which is expected to be in effect well into the weekend.<\/p>\n Eskom has provided scheduled load-shedding times until Wednesday next week (12 March 2014).<\/p>\n Eskom has notified South Africans that they can also query specific municipalities for load-shedding schedules.<\/p>\n City Power, which handles power for the City of Joburg, said power will be restored in various suburbs of Johannesburg by 12.30pm on Thursday.<\/p>\n Electricity had been cut off since 8.30am as part of load shedding due to an emergency request from Eskom, said spokesman Hloni Motloung.<\/p>\n Eskom blamed the power cuts on heavy rainfall in Mpumalanga which had left the power utility’s coal stocks wet.<\/p>\n The City of Cape Town started implementing “stage three” power cuts and advised residents to monitor their electricity usage.<\/p>\n “It is important to note that the city is wholly reliant on Eskom for the electricity supply,” said City spokesperson Neil Ballantyne.<\/p>\n Eskom announces load shedding<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Eskom: power tight for 2 more years<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n
