{"id":544536,"date":"2021-12-07T08:58:47","date_gmt":"2021-12-07T06:58:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=544536"},"modified":"2021-12-07T09:06:57","modified_gmt":"2021-12-07T07:06:57","slug":"tymebank-attracts-new-investors-including-tencent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/544536\/tymebank-attracts-new-investors-including-tencent\/","title":{"rendered":"TymeBank attracts new investors including Tencent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ARC Investments has announced on Tuesday (7 December) that Tyme, including TymeBank South Africa and Tyme Global, completed its Series B Capital Raise with the introduction of two new shareholders.<\/p>\n<p>Tyme Global represents the Singapore registered company through which the Tyme Intellectual Property is held and which serves as the vehicle for growth into new markets.<\/p>\n<p>Capital raised amounts to approximately $70 million and sees Tencent, the international leading internet and technology company based in China, and CDC Group, the UK\u2019s development finance institution, being shareholders.<\/p>\n<p>The first part of Tyme\u2019s Series B raise concluded earlier in 2021 when it secured $110 million from Apis Growth Fund II, a private equity fund managed by Apis Partners LLP, and the Gokongwei family\u2019s JG Summit Holdings &#8211; taking the combined capital raise to $180 million.<\/p>\n<p>The investment, ARC said, will enable Tyme to use its digital infrastructure to accelerate the rollout of financial services to TymeBank\u2019s historic mass-market customer base. &#8220;The two investors\u2019 capital and expertise will be used to strengthen Tyme\u2019s ability to manage risk and support Tyme\u2019s expansion into emerging markets.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">TymeBank is majority owned by Dr Patrice Motsepe\u2019s African Rainbow Capital, which remains the majority shareholder post this investment. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Other shareholders include UK based Apis Growth Fund II (\u2018Apis\u2019), a fintech private equity fund based in the UK, JG Summit Holdings (JG Summit) a Philippines based conglomerate owned by the Gokongwei family, <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">African Fig Tree (AFT), a ring-fenced vehicle established by the founders along with key individuals, <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">and the Ethos AI Fund. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>TymeBank has acquired four million customers in 32 months, with a noticeable acceleration in its acquisition rate.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Read: <a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/534466\/tymebank-is-adding-140000-new-customers-every-month\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TymeBank is adding 140,000 new customers every month<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ARC Investments has announced on Tuesday (7 December) that Tyme, including TymeBank South Africa and Tyme Global, completed its Series B Capital Raise with the introduction of two new shareholders.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":544554,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[961],"tags":[26,1977,6654],"class_list":["post-544536","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-banking","tag-headline","tag-tencent","tag-tyme"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/544536","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/10"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=544536"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/544536\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":544576,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/544536\/revisions\/544576"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/544554"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=544536"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=544536"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=544536"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
