bank accounts [April Fools]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The South African government has quietly pushed through a Bill which will allow the South African Revenue Service (SARS) to collect money directly from the bank accounts of people using e-toll roads.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new regulations, The South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral), through SARS, will be empowered to act on those people who fail to pay their e-toll accounts.<\/p>\n<p>SARS already has the power to collect through the Tax Administration Act (TAA) section 11.3.3.<\/p>\n<p>The new act, which is set to be enforced from 1 May, is linked to the Tax Administration Act and will see SARS given the power to take money from those e-toll road users who refuse to pay.<\/p>\n<p>The controversial e-toll system was implemented in December, but has faced widespread resistance, with social media abuzz with people refusing to settle outstanding e-tolls related accounts.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_55133\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Bill-documents.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-55133\" class=\"size-full wp-image-55133\" alt=\"Bill document\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Bill-documents.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Bill-documents.jpg 480w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Bill-documents-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-55133\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bill document<\/p><\/div>\n<p>According to documents seen by BusinessTech, Sanral approached government in January with its concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Sanral said that its inability to collect these outstanding e-toll bills &#8211;
