Cloud services will be where service providers will need to differentiate themselves going forward,” he said.

“The telecoms industry will be driven by larger adoption of cloud services due to cost benefits, and flexibility of core infrastructure in a cloud environment. This being achievable due to large telco’s carriers rolling out more dedicated throughput infrastructure at an access layer, either for their own infrastructure needs, or on behalf of their customers and business partners,” Meyer said.

The company lead said that it is beginning to see the benefits of an aligned partner strategy and the improved customer satisfaction and efficiency of a shared service model within Itec Connect group.

“That has given us a good foundation to launch our MPS business and that will be a key focus in the next 12 months. We have invested allot into this business with the right IP and resources we believe it will be a large part of our business in the future,” Meyer said.

He said that the group faces the challenge and risk of customers not paying and partners not being able to provide the service required under the current economic climate. ‘Over and above it puts massive margin pressure on the business and we need to ensure we are efficient but offer the best service levels. We need to truly partner our clients to ensure we drive our value proposition of our cost saving model.”

The group MD stressed that the challenges are more than just the macro-economic environment, but also included watching exposure and risks with partners and customers. “We have said no to a few ventures in order to ensure we don’t spread ourselves to thin and can focus on our critical areas.”

Itec, which employs approximately 300 people, provides office automation, telecommunication, security, power, video conferencing, managed voice and data solutions.

Last month the group announced that former Springbok rugby captain, Bob Skinstad, would become the MD of Itec Connect Western Cape – opening up a new office in the region.
