{"id":554414,"date":"2022-02-05T17:00:32","date_gmt":"2022-02-05T15:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=554414"},"modified":"2022-02-04T10:47:53","modified_gmt":"2022-02-04T08:47:53","slug":"top-10-most-sought-after-used-cars-in-south-africa-with-price-and-mileage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/motoring\/554414\/top-10-most-sought-after-used-cars-in-south-africa-with-price-and-mileage\/","title":{"rendered":"Top 10 most sought-after used cars in South Africa &#8211; with price and mileage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New data from AutoTrader reveals that the average mileage of second-hand cars sold on its platform was 70,429km, for an average model of 2016, at an average price of R312,794.<\/p>\n<p>The study \u2013 which covers January to December 2021 \u2013 shows that the Volkswagen Golf GTI has historically been the most viewed variant and remained the top searched variant in 2021 with over 3.2 million searches.<\/p>\n<p>But, early in 2021 for a short period, this changed to the Toyota Hilux 2.8GD-6 (the GTI ranked second). The most searched for model last year (4.3% of all searches), was also the Toyota Hilux (it accounted for 22,8 million searches).<\/p>\n<p>Yet another important variation versus 2020 was the increased number of searches for electric vehicles (EVs), the <span class=\"il\">AutoTrader<\/span> Car Industry Report showed.<\/p>\n<p>In total, over 540,000 searches of EVs were conducted in 2021, indicating an increase of over 110% year-on-year. As more electric vehicles get introduced into the market, <span class=\"il\">AutoTrader<\/span> recorded searches for the Porsche Taycan increased by over 900% last year while I-Pace searches rose by 62%.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/2021-porsche-taycan-e1643953878190.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-555572\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/2021-porsche-taycan-e1643953878190.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Specific Body-Type searches rose substantially in 2021 \u2013 by 27% to over 102 million. This is indicative of consumers being more inclined to search for a preferred body-type and it\u2019s also influenced by more brands having released various shapes of the \u201csame\u201d model, said AutoTrader.<\/p>\n<p>For example, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and Audi A3 are both available as a hatchback or sedan while the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux come in both single, extended and double-cabs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/AutoTrader1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-554478\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/AutoTrader1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"775\" height=\"709\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/AutoTrader1.png 775w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/AutoTrader1-300x274.png 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/AutoTrader1-768x703.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 775px) 100vw, 775px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page166R_mcid1010\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The top enquired on Model was the <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page166R_mcid1011\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Toyota Hilux, which within the top 10, <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page166R_mcid1012\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">generated 5.6% of all enquiries. <span id=\"page166R_mcid1007\" class=\"markedContent\">The top 10 most enquired on models <\/span><span id=\"page166R_mcid1008\" class=\"markedContent\">contributed 30% of all enquiries on <\/span><span id=\"page166R_mcid1009\" class=\"markedContent\">AutoTrader.<\/span><span id=\"page166R_mcid1010\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><\/span><\/span><span id=\"page166R_mcid1013\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page166R_mcid1013\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Volkswagen Polo generated the secon<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page166R_mcid1014\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">d most enquiries with 4.3% share <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page166R_mcid1015\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and moved up one position since the m<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page166R_mcid1016\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">id-year report. Ford Ranger which <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page166R_mcid1017\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">was the top sold used car in the 2020 a<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page166R_mcid1018\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">nnual Report generated 4.1% share <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page166R_mcid1019\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of all enquiries but moved down one <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page166R_mcid1020\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">position since the mid-year report.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page164R_mcid947\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">In<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">2021,<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">top<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">3<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">most<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">enquired <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page164R_mcid948\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">on<\/span> b<span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">rands<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">were<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Toyota<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(14.9%), <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page164R_mcid949\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Volkswagen (14.1%) and BMW (10.6%), <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page164R_mcid950\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">these have stayed the same during the <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page164R_mcid951\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">full 12 month period.
