{"id":554496,"date":"2022-01-31T22:09:42","date_gmt":"2022-01-31T20:09:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=554496"},"modified":"2022-01-31T22:09:42","modified_gmt":"2022-01-31T20:09:42","slug":"new-level-1-lockdown-rules-for-south-africa-including-changes-for-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/554496\/new-level-1-lockdown-rules-for-south-africa-including-changes-for-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"New level 1 lockdown rules for South Africa &#8211; including changes for schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Cyril Ramaphosa&#8217;s cabinet has announced updated level 1 lockdown rules for South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Monday evening (31 January), the presidency said that the new rules had been agreed to in a special cabinet meeting held during the day.<\/p>\n<p>This follows earlier meetings of the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) and the President\u2019s Coordinating Council (PCC) which received updates on the management of Covid-19 in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The information gathered through the system used by the Department of Health has reported that South Africa has exited the fourth wave nationally,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the trajectory of the pandemic and the levels of vaccination in the country, Cabinet has decided to make the following changes to Adjusted Alert Level 1 with immediate effect:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Testing positive<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Those who test positive with no symptoms do not have to isolate;<\/li>\n<li>If you test positive with symptoms, the isolation period has been reduced from 10 to 7 days;<\/li>\n<li>Contacts do not have to isolate unless they develop symptoms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;The rationale for these amendments is informed by the proportion of people with immunity to Covid-19 which has risen substantially, exceeding 60-80% in several serosurveys,&#8221; the presidency said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Schooling<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cabinet also reviewed the resumption of schooling to full-time learning in\u00a0all schools.<\/p>\n<p>Primary, secondary and special schools will return to daily attendance.
