{"id":55749,"date":"2014-04-15T10:46:14","date_gmt":"2014-04-15T08:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=55749"},"modified":"2014-04-15T10:46:14","modified_gmt":"2014-04-15T08:46:14","slug":"da-ready-to-take-icasa-to-court-over-ad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/media\/55749\/da-ready-to-take-icasa-to-court-over-ad\/","title":{"rendered":"DA ready to take Icasa to court over ad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The DA is set to go to court to compel communications watchdog Icasa to hear its complaint against the SABC over the broadcaster&#8217;s pulling of one of its election advertisements.<\/p>\n<p>The Independent Communications Authority of SA had not fulfilled its regulatory and constitutional obligations with regards to the handling of the Democratic Alliance&#8217;s complaint, party leader Helen Zille said in a statement on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The unavoidable impression we are left with is that ICASA is trying to deliberately delay dealing with this complaint so that the DA&#8217;s election adverts are kept off the air for longer,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>This was clearly prejudicial to the DA&#8217;s election efforts, and only served to advantage the African National Congress.<\/p>\n<p>The DA had submitted a complaint to ICASA regarding the decision by the South African Broadcasting Corporation to &#8220;censor the DA&#8217;s television and radio adverts&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/g6jU2bZxGKI\" height=\"338\" width=\"600\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The reasons supplied for the decision were spurious.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We could not let their censorship stand and so we submitted our complaint to ICASA on Saturday afternoon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In terms of regulations, Icasa was required to give a decision on the complaint within 48 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Following further communication with Icasa, the authority had said on Monday night it could not commit to reach a decision by close of business.<\/p>\n<p>An Icasa hearing has been set for Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is completely unacceptable to the DA.
