The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) says that the complaint brought by the Democratic Alliance (DA) will be heard tonight at 18:00.<\/p>\n
Last week (Friday, 11 April) the DA complained that the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) was censoring the party by not allowing its advertisement to be broadcast.<\/p>\n
According to the DA, this happened after the public broadcaster received a notice to pull the DA\u2019s political advertisement.<\/p>\n
Yesterday Icasa said that the complaint had been handed to its Complaints and Compliance Committee (CCC) and that a public hearing would be conducted on Thursday, 17 April 2014.<\/p>\n
Following yesterday\u2019s announcement, the DA threatened to take legal action against Icasa for not following its own rules to hear the complaint within 48 hours.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Authority would like to make it clear that in referring the matter to the CCC on an urgent basis, it acted within the 48-hours timelines as required by the Elections Regulations,\u201d Icasa said in its statement today.<\/p>\n
However, Icasa added that \u201cdue to the urgency of this matter\u201d and its \u201ccommitment to expediting the resolution of this complaint\u201d, it had rescheduled the hearing for tonight.<\/p>\n
