Over 540,000 searches of EVs were conducted in 2021, indicating an increase of over 110% from last year. This data is off a very low base as only 92 EVs were sold locally in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>However, momentum is expected to continue into 2022 and beyond as automakers increasingly commit to electric and as they <span class=\"ILfuVd\"><span class=\"hgKElc\">transition to 100% zero-emission sales.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In its Car Industry Report, AutoTrader said that i<span id=\"page225R_mcid1305\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">n 2021, EVs were listed 379 times, <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page225R_mcid1306\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">registering<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">an<\/span> a<span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">verage<\/span> p<span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">rice<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page225R_mcid1307\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">R1,343,341, mileage of 63,037km, year m<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page225R_mcid1308\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">odel of 2020.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Currently, there are only several fully electric vehicles <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cars.topauto.co.za\/price\/\">available on the market<\/a><\/strong> in South Africa:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>BMW i3 (<strong>R754 000<\/strong>);<\/li>\n<li>Mini Cooper SE (<strong>R589 000<\/strong>);<\/li>\n<li>Jaguar I-Pace (<strong>R1 942 000<\/strong>);<\/li>\n<li>Porsche Taycan (<strong>R2 500 000<\/strong>); and the<\/li>\n<li>Volvo XC40 Recharge <strong>(R1 200 000)<\/strong> &#8211; which was launched in the country at the start of the year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/AutoTrader1-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-557684\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/AutoTrader1-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1129\" height=\"406\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/AutoTrader1-1.png 1129w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/AutoTrader1-1-300x108.png 300w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/AutoTrader1-1-1024x368.png 1024w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/AutoTrader1-1-768x276.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1129px) 100vw, 1129px\" \/><\/a>This is expected to change in 2022 as the likes of Audi and Mercedes unveil their electric plans. Some of the new EVs coming to South Africa include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Audi e-tron 55<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Audi e-tron GT<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Audi RS e-tron GT<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>BMW iX3<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>BMW i4 M50<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Audi-etron-e1644585029560.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-557720\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Audi-etron-e1644585029560.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/electric-mini-cooper-e1577970846443.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-363670\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/electric-mini-cooper-e1577970846443.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Overall, AutoTrader said that the top 10 most listed vehicles in 2021 made up 27% of total car stock, while the 10 most supplied vehicles made up the typical list of most searched, viewed and enquired.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, average car prices were still on average more expensive than the previous year but lower than the price experienced in the first half of 2021, indicating a slow return to stabilisation, as a result, of macro-economic impacts used &amp;
