{"id":56013,"date":"2014-04-23T09:50:55","date_gmt":"2014-04-23T07:50:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=56013"},"modified":"2014-05-14T13:46:20","modified_gmt":"2014-05-14T11:46:20","slug":"strike-two-for-fnbs-rbjacobs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/56013\/strike-two-for-fnbs-rbjacobs\/","title":{"rendered":"Strike two for FNB&#8217;s Rbjacobs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rbjacobs, the Twitter persona for financial services company FNB, continued to draw criticism on the social media platform on Wednesday after several seemingly careless posts.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, 22 April, Rbjacobs caused a storm when responding to a question on the whereabouts of the bank&#8217;s &#8220;Steve&#8221; character.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s some where (sic) in Afghanistan, putting a bomb under a wheelchair and telling the cripple to run for it!\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_56037\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Rbjacobs-tweet.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-56037\" class=\"wp-image-56037\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Rbjacobs-tweet.jpg\" alt=\"Rbjacobs tweet\" width=\"590\" height=\"578\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Rbjacobs-tweet.jpg 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Rbjacobs-tweet-300x294.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 590px) 100vw, 590px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-56037\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rbjacobs tweet<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The tweet was met with a backlash from the South African Twittersphere, and was quickly deleted, leading in to a string of apologies from the account.<\/p>\n<p>However, amid the remorseful tweet string, the account made yet another careless utterance in response to a user implying that the account&#8217;s replies were automated by a &#8220;bot&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Would a robot be able to tell you the waffle and ice-cream you ate on 7 April are going straight to your hips? The account is managed by as many as 20 people, sources say.<\/p>\n<p>FNB spokesperson, Suzanne Myburgh, acting head of digital marketing and media, said in response to the Tuesday fiasco that the bank is &#8220;deeply disappointed&#8221; at the situation and apologised sincerely for any offence caused.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We find the comment distasteful and in conflict with our corporate values. The tweet has been retracted.
