{"id":56595,"date":"2014-05-01T00:06:15","date_gmt":"2014-04-30T22:06:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=56595"},"modified":"2014-05-01T00:06:15","modified_gmt":"2014-04-30T22:06:15","slug":"sas-contribution-to-global-gdp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/56595\/sas-contribution-to-global-gdp\/","title":{"rendered":"SA&#8217;s contribution to global GDP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Emerging markets account for over 30% of the world&#8217;s GDP, with South Africa contributing 0.7% of that number.<\/p>\n<p>This is according to data from the \u200eOrganisation for Economic Co\u2011operation and Development (OECD) and International Comparison Program (ICP), measuring global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) expressed in Purchasing Power Parities (PPPs) in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Large emerging economies (China, Brazil, India, Indonesia, the Russian Federation and South Africa) together accounted for around 30% of the world\u2019s GDP in 2011, compared with about 20% in 2005, the group reported.<\/p>\n<p>The united states was the biggest global GDP contributor, accounting for 17.1% of the total, followed by China (14.9%) and India (6.4%).<\/p>\n<p>The European OECD nations contributed a combined total of 17.9%.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the world &#8211; outside OECD nations and emerging markets &#8211; contributed 20% to global GDP.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_56597\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Share-of-world-GDP.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-56597\" class=\"wp-image-56597\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Share-of-world-GDP.png\" alt=\"Share of world GDP\" width=\"600\" height=\"545\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Share-of-world-GDP.png 625w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Share-of-world-GDP-300x272.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-56597\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Share of world GDP<\/p><\/div>\n<p>According to the group, OECD nations contributed a total 49.2% of the global GDP in 2011 &#8211; the latest benchmark year &#8211; compared with about 60% in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;PPPs are the relevant currency conversion rates to make international comparisons of economic activity.
