{"id":56863,"date":"2014-05-05T14:16:14","date_gmt":"2014-05-05T12:16:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=56863"},"modified":"2014-05-05T14:16:14","modified_gmt":"2014-05-05T12:16:14","slug":"one-in-three-unemployed-in-gauteng-da","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/56863\/one-in-three-unemployed-in-gauteng-da\/","title":{"rendered":"One in three unemployed in Gauteng: DA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Democratic Alliance says that South Africa&#8217;s economic hub, Gauteng, is in crisis, with nearly 30%, or one in three people are unemployed.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, StatsSA said that South Africa\u2019s unemployment rate rose to 25.2% of the labour force in the first quarter of 2014 from 24.1% in Q4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"arcticle_text\">The quarterly labour force survey found that this amounted to 5.067 million people without work in the first quarter, up from 4.83 million in the previous three months.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Instead of creating jobs, more and more people are without work in the country\u2019s economic hub,&#8221; the DA said ahead of election day on 7 May.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are now faced with a crisis where over 2 million people are unemployed in Gauteng. Nearly 30%, or 1 in 3 people, in Gauteng are unemployed,&#8221; said Helen Zille, leader of the DA.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In contrast, where the DA governs we added 146,000 jobs to the economy \u2013 the highest contribution in SA.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_32575\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Helen-Zille-in-red.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32575\" class=\"size-full wp-image-32575\" src=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Helen-Zille-in-red.jpg\" alt=\"Helen Zille\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Helen-Zille-in-red.jpg 600w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Helen-Zille-in-red-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-32575\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Helen Zille<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Last month, the DA said it aims to create two million &#8216;real&#8217; jobs in Gauteng, should it be elected to govern in the province.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In this election the DA has tabled a Gauteng manifesto that would make this province the job-creating powerhouse that we all need it to be.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From capitalizing 220,000 families with title deeds for their homes, to holding a referendum on job-killing e-tolls, to support for entrepreneurs \u2013 under the DA, Gauteng will lead job creation in South Africa,&#8221; Zille said.<\/p>\n<p>Nationally, the DA said its policies can create six million real, permanent jobs in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Jacob Zuma\u2019s speech on Sunday showed that he has no plan to create real jobs.
