SA music retailer\u00a0Look & Listen<\/a> has pulled out of a deal to facilitate the re-launch of its digital music service – a project originally set for a December launch.<\/p>\n

This is according to Mondia Media<\/a>, a technology solution provider and music content aggregator, who partnered with Look & Listen to re-launch the service.<\/p>\n

The service was initially set to target mobile, and would have been made available as a digital download service only.<\/p>\n

Look & Listen did not respond to emails requesting comment on the matter.<\/p>\n

The group has seen its brick and mortar channel footprint reduced to 19 stores, according to the store locator map on its website. This is down from 28 stores in 2012.<\/p>\n

A person working on the project said that Look & Listen pulled out of the entire deal in April, “stating that this\u00a0 no longer aligned with their strategic intent and they did not wish to deploy or play in the space of mobile at all”.<\/p>\n

In October, Howard Lazarus<\/a>, chairman of Look & Listen told BusinessTech that the company was working on\u00a0finalizing\u00a0agreement with suppliers and labels.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s time consuming, but it\u2019s important to make sure that we have the best offering when we launch,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mondia Media said it had engaged with over 700 artists, aggregators and labels. The music retailer originally halted online purchases on its platform in February 2013.<\/p>\n
