Eskom has announced that stage 2 load shedding <\/span>w<\/span>ill be <\/span>implemented <\/span>from<\/span> 1<\/span>7h<\/span>00<\/span> on Tuesday (12 April) afternoon until 05h00 on Wednes<\/span>day.<\/span><\/p>\n

The power utility warned the public that this constrained supply situation <\/span>will<\/span> persist throughout the <\/span>week, with the possibility that more load shedding <\/span>is likely to <\/span> be implemented <\/span>should the generation <\/span>capacity deteriorate further.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Unit 5 of Medupi Power Station returned to service during the night. <\/span> T<\/span>hree <\/span>generating unit<\/span>s<\/span> at <\/span>the <\/span>Camden Power Station tripped during the night<\/span>, <\/span>contrib<\/span>uting<\/span> to the <\/span>current <\/span>shortage of capacity<\/span>.<\/span> Eskom <\/span>teams are working hard to return as many of these units to service as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We currently have <\/span> 4 8<\/span>0<\/span>4M<\/span>W on planned maintenance, while another <\/span> 1<\/span>4<\/span> 4<\/span>49MW<\/span> of capacity is <\/span>unavailable due to unplanned <\/span>breakdowns<\/span>. <\/span>We are <\/span>managin<\/span>g <\/span>the<\/span> emergency generation reserves to limit the stage of load shedding.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Eskom said its <\/span>overnight <\/span>load shedding will be used to replenish the dam level at the pump storage power stations in preparation <\/span>for <\/span>the remainder of the week<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Eskom<\/span> would like to apologise for the imp<\/span>lementation of load shedding and would like to reiterate that <\/span>load shedding is implemented only as a last resort in order to protect the national grid. We <\/span> will <\/span>communicate should there be any significant changes to the supply situation.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Eskom has warned in a load shedding forecast for 2021\/2022, that its system is likely to remain severely constrained for the near future.<\/p>\n
