{"id":580012,"date":"2022-04-25T17:05:05","date_gmt":"2022-04-25T15:05:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=580012"},"modified":"2022-04-25T17:05:05","modified_gmt":"2022-04-25T15:05:05","slug":"the-most-in-demand-job-skills-in-south-africa-right-now-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/580012\/the-most-in-demand-job-skills-in-south-africa-right-now-10\/","title":{"rendered":"The most in-demand job skills in South Africa right now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jobs portal\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.careerjunction.co.za\/\">CareerJunction<\/a><\/strong> has published its Employment Insights for March 2022<strong>,<\/strong>\u00a0showing which job skills are most in-demand in South Africa right now.<\/p>\n<p>The insights report replaces CareerJunction\u2019s previous job supply and demand index, taking a more detailed look at the job sectors in the country that are currently hiring, and which positions are most sought after.<\/p>\n<p>The report is based on comprehensive data gathered from the Saongroup South Africa \u2013 where around 5,000 of the country\u2019s top recruiters (both agencies and employers) advertise their positions to millions of registered jobseekers.<\/p>\n<p>The latest report shows that there has been a continued increase in recruitment activity over the last 13 months, which is encouraging because it signifies that employers are showing confidence in the local economy and that more opportunities are becoming available for job seekers despite the ongoing challenges faced by the local economy.<\/p>\n<p>Between March 2021 and March 2022, hiring activity increased by 39%, CareerJunction said, representing an uptake of 18% in job advertising, compared to the year-on-year stats for March 2020 to March 2021.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>In-demand job skills<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Admin, Office &amp; Support has seen the biggest increase in hiring activity, the report shows.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One reason for this may be that an increasing number of local companies are moving back to a more office-bound working environment as Covid-19 restrictions continue to ease,&#8221; CareerJunction said.<\/p>\n<p>It recorded growing hiring activity in three main sectors over the last three months. In each sector, several roles have been advertised more frequently.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Admin, Office and Support <span style=\"color: #008000;\">(+17%)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Admin clerk<\/li>\n<li>Personal assistant<\/li>\n<li>Switchboard \/ reception<\/li>\n<li>Human resources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Finance <span style=\"color: #008000;\">(+10%)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Financial\/project accounting<\/li>\n<li>Bookkeeping<\/li>\n<li>Payroll and wages<\/li>\n<li>Financial analysis<\/li>\n<li>Purchasing and procurement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Business and Management<span style=\"color: #008000;\"> (+4%)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Middle \/ department management<\/li>\n<li>Staff recruitment \/ selection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Conversely, CareerJunction also tracked a drop in hiring activity in certain sectors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Although Information Technology continues to be the top-performing employment sector in South Africa, it\u2019s interesting to observe that hiring activity in this area has declined by 3% in the last three months.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This decline may be partly attributed to increased emigration as travel restrictions are relaxed as well as the growing trend of &#8216;digital nomads&#8217; in the IT space,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Medical and health <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(-14%)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Paramedic<\/li>\n<li>Nursing\/professional caregiving<\/li>\n<li>Optometrist<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Education, training and library <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(-8%)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Teaching<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Information technology <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(-3%)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Software development<\/li>\n<li>IT project administration\/management<\/li>\n<li>Systems\/network administration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>CareerJunction researched three popular roles across four different sectors using actual salary offerings to compare market related salaries quarter by quarter.
