{"id":58173,"date":"2014-05-21T10:58:36","date_gmt":"2014-05-21T08:58:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=58173"},"modified":"2014-05-21T13:46:05","modified_gmt":"2014-05-21T11:46:05","slug":"the-worlds-biggest-brands-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/58173\/the-worlds-biggest-brands-revealed\/","title":{"rendered":"The world&#8217;s biggest brands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Technology companies &#8211; including South Africa&#8217;s MTN Group &#8211; are the most valuable, fastest rising and most talked about brands in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Tech firms, led by the likes of Google, Apple, IBM, Microsoft and Amazon, account for nearly a third of total brand value amongst the world&#8217;s top 100 brands.<\/p>\n<p>According to the annual BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands for 2014, the technology sector rose 16% in overall brand value in the past year, accounting for $841.4 billion of the total top 100 brand value.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the top 100 most valuable global brands added $310 billion to reach $2.9 trillion in total brand value &#8211; a 12% increase over 2013.<\/p>\n<p>According to BrandZ, prior to the 2014 results, the 100 companies had increased an average of about 6%, or $125 billion, annually since the financial crisis of 2008 and 2009.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands 2014 represents a resurgence of growth following the financial downturn in 2008, and a 98% increase in value since the ranking was introduced in 2006,&#8221; the group said.<\/p>\n<p>Apple, ranked as the world&#8217;s biggest tech company by Forbes, has boosted its brand value by a massive 826% since 2006, adding $131.9 billion to its label.
