{"id":58375,"date":"2014-05-23T00:05:35","date_gmt":"2014-05-22T22:05:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=58375"},"modified":"2014-05-23T09:34:04","modified_gmt":"2014-05-23T07:34:04","slug":"south-africas-city-of-opportunity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/58375\/south-africas-city-of-opportunity\/","title":{"rendered":"South Africa&#8217;s city of opportunity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new <a title=\"http:\/\/www.pwc.com\/us\/en\/cities-of-opportunity\/index.jhtml\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pwc.com\/us\/en\/cities-of-opportunity\/index.jhtml\" target=\"_blank\">PwC report<\/a> ranks the 30 biggest cities of opportunity in the world, including Johannesburg &#8211; which features not only for South Africa, but is also one of two cities from the African continent.<\/p>\n<p>The report analyzed 30 cities &#8211; all capitals of finance, commerce, and culture \u2014 and, through their current performance, &#8220;seeks to open a window on what makes cities function best&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Johannesburg ranks 8th out of the 30 cities of opportunity; however, rather counter-intuitively, the rankings work in reverse, with 30 indicating the top position, and one being the worst.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, in real terms, South Africa&#8217;s economic hub ranks 22nd out of the 30 cities (8th last).<\/p>\n<p>The only other African country featured on the list is Kenya&#8217;s capital, Nairobi, which placed last in the rankings.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nairobi is the first African city we\u2019ve added since Johannesburg became part of the report in 2008.
