{"id":587614,"date":"2022-05-18T11:36:14","date_gmt":"2022-05-18T09:36:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=587614"},"modified":"2022-05-18T11:36:14","modified_gmt":"2022-05-18T09:36:14","slug":"webuycars-reveals-how-many-vehicles-it-buys-versus-how-many-it-sells-each-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/motoring\/587614\/webuycars-reveals-how-many-vehicles-it-buys-versus-how-many-it-sells-each-month\/","title":{"rendered":"WeBuyCars reveals how many vehicles it buys versus how many it sells each month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Transaction Capital has published its interim results for the six months ended March 2022, showing the explosive growth of second-hand car retailer, WeBuyCars.<\/p>\n<p>The listed company <span class=\"hue\">invests in alternative asset classes including SA Taxi, and<\/span> has a controlling interest in WeBuyCars.<\/p>\n<p>According to the interim results, WeBuyCars grew headline earnings by 58% to R406 million in HY2022, with the group\u2019s attributable portion increasing 122% to R251 million.<\/p>\n<p>Transaction Capital increased its effective shareholding in WeBuyCars in August 2021 to 74.2% and as a result, now consolidates a greater component of WeBuyCars earnings.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The group said that WeBuyCars achieved its medium-term target of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">10,000<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">vehicles traded per month earlier than anticipated, with vehicles sold up 32% during the reporting period, and vehicles bought up 31%. The group saw vehicle bays up by a similar percentage (34%).<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/WeBuyCars1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-587618\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/WeBuyCars1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"549\" height=\"543\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/WeBuyCars1.png 549w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/WeBuyCars1-300x297.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 549px) 100vw, 549px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>WeBuyCars recorded 7,205 parking bays in 10 vehicle supermarkets, up from 4,738 in HY2021. That number has since grown to 7,835 parking bays in 11 vehicle supermarkets in May 2022.<\/p>\n<p>In the last six months,WeBuyCars opened its largest vehicle supermarket at the Dome in Johannesburg with a capacity of 1,125 bays and has also opened smaller dealerships in Polokwane and Nelspruit with 220 and 370 bays, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>In the next 12 months, it plans to introduce a further three dealerships in various locations in South Africa.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dome branch in Johannesburg opened in December 2022 &#8211; 1,125 bays<\/li>\n<li>Polokwane branch in Limpopo opened in February 2022 &#8211; 220 bays<\/li>\n<li>Nelspruit branch in Mpumulanga opened in April 2022 &#8211; 370 bays<\/li>\n<li>Two branches enhanced during May 2022 &#8211; 260 bays<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>WeBuyCars said that it anticipates 600 additional bays by December 2022.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/WeBuyCars0.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-587624\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/WeBuyCars0.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"536\" height=\"488\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/WeBuyCars0.png 536w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/WeBuyCars0-300x273.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 536px) 100vw, 536px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Vehicles bought per month: +38%<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>10,000 vehicles bought per month (HY2021: 7,235)<\/li>\n<li>11,000 vehicles bought in February &amp; March 2022<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Vehicles sold per month<\/span>: +<span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">41%<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">9,750<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">vehicles sold per month (HY2021: 6,925)<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">11,000<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">vehicles sold during March 2022<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">10%<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of consumer sales are online<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/WeBuyCars.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-587616\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/WeBuyCars.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"627\" height=\"685\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/WeBuyCars.png 627w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/WeBuyCars-275x300.png 275w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 627px) 100vw, 627px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead, WeBuyCars said it has lifted its medium target to <span class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">15,000<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">vehicles traded per month, while the group aims to continue to open dealerships<\/span><\/span><span class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"> across SA, varying by size, dependent on demand.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>It will also be eyeing international expansion following a r<span class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ecent organic expansion in Morocco<\/span>. <\/span>Commenting on WeBuyCars\u2019 recent expansion into Morocco, Transaction Capital CEO David Hurwitz, said: \u201cThis is the first step in our international expansion aspirations. We will continue to explore further expansion opportunities in select markets<\/p>\n<p>To broaden its mobility offering to private consumers, WeBuyCars launched its principal vehicle finance product during HY2022.
