{"id":588794,"date":"2022-05-21T11:47:45","date_gmt":"2022-05-21T09:47:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=588794"},"modified":"2022-05-21T11:47:45","modified_gmt":"2022-05-21T09:47:45","slug":"eskom-moves-to-stage-4-load-shedding-heres-the-schedule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/588794\/eskom-moves-to-stage-4-load-shedding-heres-the-schedule\/","title":{"rendered":"Eskom moves to stage 4 load shedding \u2013 here\u2019s the schedule"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eskom has moved to stage 4 load shedding on Saturday (21 May), as d<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">emand is higher than anticipated, while some units have tripped, it said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Public enterprises minister Pravin Gordhan meanwhile, has said that the incident of cable theft at the Hendrina Power Station, by people suspected to work at the plant, is along with several other incidents the reason that millions of South Africans have had to sit in the dark this week.<\/p>\n<p>Gordhan said this when he tabled the department\u2019s Budget Vote at a plenary of the National Assembly on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was informed by the management of Eskom this morning that yet another incident has taken place at the Hendrina Power Station, where an important cable which is required to start a unit that was undergoing repairs and to get it synchronised with the rest of the system was cut.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo these flexible copper bars which are required to synchronise this unit to the rest of the power infrastructure was stolen next to the generator and the reactor earth bars, as they are called, were also stolen by obviously people working within the power station,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>This comes as Eskom has implemented stage 2 load shedding every day between 17:00 and 22:00 this week.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Loadshedding?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Loadshedding<\/a> will be increased to Stage 4 from 13:00 until 22:00 tonight. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Stage4?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Stage4<\/a> loadshedding will be implemented at 08:00 until 22:00 tomorrow night. Demand is higher than anticipated, some units have tripped.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Eskom Hld SOC Ltd (@Eskom_SA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Eskom_SA\/status\/1527945195224018944?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 21, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Gordhan said that this incident, along with other incidents, was the reason most South Africans found themselves without electricity this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are among other revelations that have occurred over the past few days \u2013 the corruption with the supply of oil, the cable that was cut at another power station a few days ago \u2013 these are all directly related to the load shedding that we experience today over and above other operational issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought it was important that the public is aware of some of the challenges we face, something that I will return to,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Gordhan said the acts of \u201cthe greedy, the corrupt, the bully, the counter-revolutionary set back our progress as a democracy and stop us from becoming a caring nation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile they sit back to enjoy their spoils, the damage they cause is borne by our communities \u2013 by workers, by small businesses, by the unemployed and youth<\/p>\n<p>Now is the time for all of us to join the ranks of those who want to build a better future and better institutions and not just point fingers among us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow is the time to care for the hungry, the marginalised, those in despair.
