{"id":58893,"date":"2014-05-27T14:56:35","date_gmt":"2014-05-27T12:56:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=58893"},"modified":"2014-05-27T16:27:59","modified_gmt":"2014-05-27T14:27:59","slug":"joburg-targets-solution-for-cable-theft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/58893\/joburg-targets-solution-for-cable-theft\/","title":{"rendered":"Joburg targets solution for cable theft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The City of Johannesburg says it will target a solution to the electricity outages due to theft and vandalism.<\/p>\n<p>Delivering a budget speech for the city, Finance MMC Geoffrey Makhubo said that a combined operational and capital budget for the city has grown to a record R47.1 billion, after exceeding R40 billion last year.<\/p>\n<p>City Power was allocated an operating budget of R13.2 billion and a multi-year capital budget of R7.3 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Makhubo said that the main programmes to be undertaken would include refurbishment of ageing infrastructure, investment in new bulk infrastructure in various areas such as Rivasdale, Reuven, Berea, Ferndale, Lenasia and Halfway House, to name a few.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Many of the outages we experience are due to theft and vandalism and therefore we are investing in a comprehensive system to deal with the issues of vandalism and cable theft including alarm monitoring devices,&#8221;
