{"id":590698,"date":"2022-05-26T15:05:14","date_gmt":"2022-05-26T13:05:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=590698"},"modified":"2022-05-26T15:05:14","modified_gmt":"2022-05-26T13:05:14","slug":"watch-out-for-bogus-cops-on-one-of-south-africas-busiest-roads-these-are-the-cars-they-drive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/590698\/watch-out-for-bogus-cops-on-one-of-south-africas-busiest-roads-these-are-the-cars-they-drive\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch out for bogus cops on one of South Africa&#8217;s busiest roads &#8211; these are the cars they drive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fidelity Services Group, the largest private security firm in South Africa, says that motorists need to be aware of a disturbing increase in the number of hijackings at certain intersections in Randburg, Gauteng, and criminals presenting themselves as police officers.<\/p>\n<p>The security group noted that Randburg Station Commander, Brigadier Michelle Jones, issued a warning concerning a rise in hijackings at certain intersections in the northern parts of Joburg.<\/p>\n<p>She specifically mentioned the following areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Malibongwe street and N1 both on and off-ramps;<\/li>\n<li>William Nicol on and off-ramp;<\/li>\n<li>The stretch of N1 North and South between Malibongwe and William Nicol roads.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>She said the suspects allegedly operate in a group of two to four and use a host of different vehicles with blue lights. The vehicles used include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A white Ford Ranger<\/li>\n<li>A white VW Polo<\/li>\n<li>Blue\/ white\/ silver Toyota Corollas<\/li>\n<li>Grey Nissan Navara<\/li>\n<li>Grey Nissan Almera<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Brigadier Jones noted that the victims, who believe they are dealing with bona fide police officials, are held up against their will and dropped off in different areas around Gauteng.<\/p>\n<p>Fidelity Services Group called on citizens to show caution:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do not stop for anyone if you suspect that the person might be a bogus officer.
