{"id":591468,"date":"2022-05-30T09:57:24","date_gmt":"2022-05-30T07:57:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=591468"},"modified":"2022-05-30T09:59:46","modified_gmt":"2022-05-30T07:59:46","slug":"gauteng-has-a-new-app-for-potholes-how-it-works","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/technology\/591468\/gauteng-has-a-new-app-for-potholes-how-it-works\/","title":{"rendered":"Gauteng has a new app for potholes &#8211; how it works"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Gauteng provincial government has launched its new PotholeFixGP App which allows road users to report poor road conditions and other road maintenance issues that require attention.<\/p>\n<p>The app, which is currently only available on the Google Play Store, is set to be rolled out on the Huawei and Apple App stores in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Gauteng MEC for Public Transport and Road Infrastructure Jacob Mamabolo said that the launch of the app is part of the Department&#8217;s commitment to leveraging new technologies to assist with the monitoring of potholes and other road defects that need urgent attention.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Pothole-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-591472 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Pothole-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"421\" height=\"725\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Pothole-1.png 421w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Pothole-1-174x300.png 174w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 421px) 100vw, 421px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The process works as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A user reports a pothole\/road defect on the app by using their GPS location or dropping a pin on the map.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Once reported by a user, a pothole\/road defect appears on the departmental dashboard where it will be allocated to the maintenance team.
