{"id":59289,"date":"2014-05-30T14:57:09","date_gmt":"2014-05-30T12:57:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=59289"},"modified":"2014-05-30T14:57:09","modified_gmt":"2014-05-30T12:57:09","slug":"south-africas-coolest-bank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/59289\/south-africas-coolest-bank\/","title":{"rendered":"South Africa&#8217;s coolest bank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new survey amongst South Africa&#8217;s youth finds First National Bank to be the &#8216;coolest&#8217; bank in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its 10th year, the 2014 Sunday Times Generation Next Brand Survey Awards, reveals what the South African youth, aged between 8 and 22, deem cool.<\/p>\n<p>The survey polled a sample group of 5,500 South African youngsters, with FNB coming out tops.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">&#8220;Coolest&#8221; Bank<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>FNB<\/li>\n<li>Standard Bank<\/li>\n<li>Absa<\/li>\n<li>Nedbank<\/li>\n<li>Capitec<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>BMW South Africa walked away with the \u201cCoolest Brand Overall\u201d award, while Coca Cola came in second, and Nike third.<\/p>\n<p>Last year BlackBerry was the coolest brand in South Africa, but a trend from this year\u2019s Generation Next results was that the smartphone maker seems to have lost its edge among the youth.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Coolest Cellphone Application<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>WhatsApp<\/li>\n<li>BlackBerry Messenger<\/li>\n<li>Facebook<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>WhatsApp has taken the top spot as the SA youth\u2019s coolest cellphone application, unseating BBM in the process.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Coolest Cellphone<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Apple iPhone<\/li>\n<li>Samsung<\/li>\n<li>BlackBerry<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Awarded by international YouTube celebrity Casper Lee, a South African, BlackBerry dropped two places since last year while Samsung rose two, with Apple\u2019s iPhone walking away with the prize.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Coolest Telecommunications Provider<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Vodacom<\/li>\n<li>MTN South Africa<\/li>\n<li>Cell C<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Little has changed in the rankings of South Africa\u2019s coolest network operators among youth, with Vodacom, MTN, and Cell C making up the top 3.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Coolest Hi-Tech Gadget<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet PCs<\/li>\n<li>Xbox<\/li>\n<li>iPad<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>BlackBerry and the iPhone have dropped out of the top 3 coolest hi-tech gadget rankings, with the Samsung Galaxy Tab and Xbox stepping in to take their places.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Coolest Computer Brand<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Samsung<\/li>\n<li>Apple<\/li>\n<li>Sony<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Apple lost ground to Samsung in the battle for the coolest computer brand. Unfortunately for those youth who love Samsung\u2019s PC brand, the company has announced that it will <a title=\"No more Samsung laptops in SA\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/hardware\/101788-no-more-samsung-laptops-in-sa.html\">no longer be selling its notebook computers<\/a> in South Africa.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\">Coolest Console\/Computer Game<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>FIFA 14<\/li>\n<li>Grand Theft Auto<\/li>\n<li>Need for Speed<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Need for Speed has lost its place as second coolest video game to Grand Theft Auto.
