{"id":593190,"date":"2022-06-03T07:19:16","date_gmt":"2022-06-03T05:19:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=593190"},"modified":"2022-06-03T07:19:16","modified_gmt":"2022-06-03T05:19:16","slug":"tesla-may-have-functioning-humanoid-robot-prototype-within-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/technology\/593190\/tesla-may-have-functioning-humanoid-robot-prototype-within-months\/","title":{"rendered":"Tesla may have functioning humanoid robot prototype within months"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tesla Inc may have a functioning humanoid robot up and running within months, chief executive officer Elon Musk said on Twitter, as he postponed the electric carmaker\u2019s second AI Day until September 30 for that reason.<\/p>\n<p>Optimus, first introduced in August 2021 during Tesla\u2019s inaugural AI Day, is a human-sized robot Musk envisions will be able to perform mundane tasks like grocery shopping.<\/p>\n<p>Also known as Tesla Bot, the robotic humanoid will one day have \u201cthe potential to be more significant than the vehicle business over time,\u201d Musk has said.<\/p>\n<p>According to a presentation made during the 2021 AI event, Optimus will be around 173 centimeters (5ft\u20198) tall, weigh around 57 kilograms and have a carrying capacity of 20 kilograms. It will be controlled by the same artificial intelligence systems that Tesla is developing for use in its electric vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Essentially, in the future, \u201cphysical work will be a choice,\u201d Musk said at the time. \u201cTesla is arguably the world\u2019s biggest robotics company.
