{"id":60379,"date":"2014-06-12T17:50:40","date_gmt":"2014-06-12T15:50:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=60379"},"modified":"2014-06-12T17:50:40","modified_gmt":"2014-06-12T15:50:40","slug":"carrim-heads-to-parliaments-finance-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/60379\/carrim-heads-to-parliaments-finance-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"Carrim heads to Parliament\u2019s finance committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Four axed Cabinet ministers will chair portfolio committees in the new Parliament, the African National Congress revealed on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Mashatile has been nominated to chair the standing committee on appropriations after being dropped from President Jacob Zuma\u2019s Cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>Mashatile served as arts and culture minister from 2010 to 2014, a portfolio now occupied by Nathi Mthethwa.<\/p>\n<p>Former communications minister Yunus Carrim was nominated chairman of Parliament\u2019s finance committee.<\/p>\n<p>Carrim, an MP since 1994, served as chairman of various committees before his Cabinet appointment, including the justice committee which saw to the demise of the Scorpions in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Connie September, who served less than a year as human settlements minister before being axed from Zuma\u2019s Cabinet, will chair the state security committee.<\/p>\n<p>Ben Martins, also in his 20th year as an ANC MP in Parliament, returns as public works committee chairman.<\/p>\n<p>Before being dropped from Zuma\u2019s Cabinet, Martins served as home affairs committee chairman, deputy public enterprises minister, transport minister and energy minister \u2014 a post he held since July last year before also being dropped from the new Cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>Another former minister in ex-president Thabo Mbeki\u2019s Cabinet, Thoko Didiza, is expected to become a house chairwoman.<\/p>\n<p>The full list of MPs named on Thursday are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Agriculture, forestry and fisheries: Rosina Semenya;<\/li>\n<li>Arts and culture: Xoliswa Tom;<\/li>\n<li>Basic education: Nomalungelo Gina;<\/li>\n<li>Communications: Joyce Moloi-Moropa;<\/li>\n<li>Co-operative governance and traditional affairs: Richard Mdakane;<\/li>\n<li>Defence and military veterans: Stanley Motimele;<\/li>\n<li>Economic development: Busi Coleman;<\/li>\n<li>Energy: Fikile Majola;<\/li>\n<li>Environmental affairs: Jackson Mthembu;<\/li>\n<li>Finance: Yunis Carrim;<\/li>\n<li>Health: Lindelwa Dunjwa;<\/li>\n<li>Higher education: Yvonne Phosa;<\/li>\n<li>Home affairs: Buoang Mashile;<\/li>\n<li>Human settlements: Nocawe Nafu;<\/li>\n<li>International relations and co-operation: Moses Masango;<\/li>\n<li>Justice and correctional services: Mathole Motshekga;<\/li>\n<li>Labour: Lumka Yengeni;<\/li>\n<li>Mineral resources: Sahlulele Luzipho;<\/li>\n<li>Police: Francois Beukman;<\/li>\n<li>Public enterprises: Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba;<\/li>\n<li>Public service and administration: Peace Mabe;<\/li>\n<li>Public works: Ben Martins;<\/li>\n<li>Rural development and land reform: Phumzile Mabila;<\/li>\n<li>Science and technology: Bevan Goqwana;<\/li>\n<li>Small business development: Ruth Bhengu;<\/li>\n<li>Social development: Rosemary Capa;<\/li>\n<li>Sport and recreation: Beauty Dlulane;<\/li>\n<li>State security: Connie September;<\/li>\n<li>Telecommunications and postal: Mmamoloko Kubayi;<\/li>\n<li>Trade and industry: Joan Fubbs;<\/li>\n<li>Transport: Dikeledi Magadzi;<\/li>\n<li>Tourism: Beatrice Ngcobo;<\/li>\n<li>Water and sanitation: Mlungisi Johnson;<\/li>\n<li>Women: Thandi Memela;<\/li>\n<li>Standing committee on appropriations: Paul Mashatile;<\/li>\n<li>Standing committee on public accounts (Scopa): Themba Godi;<\/li>\n<li>Standing committee on auditor general: Vincent Smith;<\/li>\n<li>Multi party women\u2019s caucus: Rosalia Morutoa;
